There is not so much
to tell about Larko, really. Actually, he is quite a boring fellow.
Sometimes you do not even notice his presence until the man starts to
snore. When that happens, however, you can not possibly fail to
acknowledge that Larko is present.
With one foot in
Estonia, the other in Finland, the man must have quite long legs.
(Tallinn is about 60 kilometres from Helsinki with the Gulf of Finland
in between.) Larko carries a Finnish passport in his pocket because that
is where he first greeted the World loud and clear in 1957. He was 3
weeks overdue to enter and ever since he has been late where ever he
goes.
Larko has been a
railway enthusiast all his life. As a young man he made several Inter
Rail train tours all around Europe. That is more fun and defenetly more
healthy than the sort of Trainspotting that the youngsters of this day
and age are about. Larko is more than slightly pissed off with some
European governments´ policy of closing down their national
railways.
Even Larko's closest friends do not
know so much about him but everybody knows that the man loves beer.
Larko has a shadow personality, Joodik whose special interest is
very much about beer, booze and public houses. Joodik has a web site of
his own Punase Viinakuu Kolhoos
(The Collective Farm of Red October) where he contemplates in Estonian
the various subjects connecting to the special interest. Larko and
Joodik are angry about the mishabit of Finnish breweries to serve
raindeer's piss and charge the customer for lager.
Larko is very much
involved with weblogging and other forms of Internet publishing as you
may have discovered already. The Internet brings a whole new dimension
to the idea of freedom of speech. Larko despices all forms of
censorship. Luckily enough, it is practically impossible to censor the
Web in the long run.
The wonders of World
Wide Web also make it possible to actually be present in many places
simultaneously. It does not really matter where you spend your time in
the non-virtual dimension. The Web does not, however, replace the need
for contacts with real life persons. Or when did you last time have sex
with your computer?
When not in the
cyberspace or in the pubs guided by Joodik, Larko very much likes to go
to theatre. A good place to combine the two would be the provincial town
of Rakvere in Estonia. The local theatre is exellent and the theatre's
bar even more so. After a good play and a few pints of Viru Nigula beer
the theatre's guest house would be a good place to spend the night in,
that is unless you absolutely want to hit the local night life.
Larko is anxious to
increase his knowledge of history, culture and literature. The funny
thing with these subjects is that the more you learn about them the less
you actually know. The same defenetly goes to the subject of women.
Larko will propably not live long enough to truly learn to understand
them.
Is there a conclusion
to be reached about all of above? Sure there is. Better keep rolling but
leave the rocking for younger people! And anywhere is better than
somewhere else.
